Senior General Kitchen Assistant/Junior Chef

- Working Hours: 35 Hours per week, Monday to Friday, term time, 7am to 3pm or 7.30am to 3.30pm
We are seeking a highly experienced and self-sufficient Senior General Kitchen Assistant/Junior Chef to join our team, primarily based at a mixed secondary school in Tottenham. This role involves serving breakfast and morning snacks, managing a tuck shop, and then transporting meals via your own car or the school mini bus between our main site in Tottenham and a satellite school location in Hornsey.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Assist with the preparation and cooking of snacks and meals according to school menus and dietary requirements.
- Support the Chef Manager/Cook in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to pupils and staff.
- Prepare ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning food.
- Serve meals efficiently and professionally during breakfast, lunch, and special events.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety at all times.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and catering equipment, ensuring all areas are kept clean and organised.
- Help with stock rotation, storage, and delivery checks in accordance with food safety regulations.
- Monitor food temperatures and complete relevant food hygiene records when required.
- Assist with setting up and clearing dining areas.
- Follow allergen procedures and support the catering team in meeting dietary and nutritional requirements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations.
- Comply with all Health & Safety, Food Safety, and safeguarding procedures within the school environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, Cook, or Junior Chef.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced catering environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a positive, flexible attitude.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2).
- Understanding of allergen awareness and dietary requirements is advantageous.
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one.
- Must be a car owner/driver with a valid driving licence or have a Category D1 minibus licence so you could drive the school mini bus. Paid mileage at 45p per mile.
