About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Housing & Public Protection Business Improvement Manager to join a dynamic Local Authority team in Maidenhead. This is a key leadership role focused on driving transformation, improving service delivery, and overseeing business support, performance, and complaint-handling functions across Housing and Public Protection.
Working closely with the Assistant Director and wider management team, you will shape policy, lead on major service-improvement projects, and enhance how critical housing and public protection services are delivered to residents.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Business Support Team, Housing Analyst, and Complaints/Review Officer.
- Oversee transformation projects, service improvements, and ICT/technology development initiatives.
- Manage governance for officer delegations and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
- Develop and refine operational procedures, policies, and strategies.
- Oversee responses to:
- FOIs and Member Enquiries
- Formal complaints
- Statutory reviews and housing appeals
- Legal appeals where required
- Support performance reporting, dashboards, needs assessments, and data monitoring functions.
- Manage budgets and contracts in line with council governance frameworks.
- Identify service improvement and training opportunities arising from complaints and reviews.
- Deputise for the Assistant Director as required.
Essential Criteria
- Degree-level education in a related field (Level 5/6 equivalent) such as Housing Studies, Environmental Health, Business Administration, or similar
- Local Authority experience (essential).
- Strong understanding of housing or public protection issues and government policy.
- Demonstrable experience managing people, budgets, and driving service improvement.
- Experience delivering high-quality customer-focused services.
- Knowledge of data protection, FOI, and equality legislation.
- Experience working within politically influenced environments.
- Excellent communication (written & verbal) and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret data, produce reports, and manage transformation projects.
- Ability to respond effectively to formal complaints and Ombudsman matters.
