We are seeking a Contracts/Procurement Lawyer to join our client, in their Legal – Corporate Team. This role involves providing expert legal advice and support on contracts, procurement, and commercial law matters, ensuring that the Council’s decisions and processes are legally sound.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide legal advice on contracts, procurement, company law, and local government law.
- Draft and review contracts and legal documents to ensure compliance with legal and governance standards.
- Support project management and governance of Council projects.
- Train and advise Council staff on legal aspects of contracts and procurement.
- Manage external legal advisers when necessary.
- Keep legal templates and precedents up to date.
- Negotiate with contractors and assess their submissions.
- Help manage legal risks and stay updated on legal developments.
- Promote equality and diversity and adhere to Council policies such as data protection and health & safety.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be a qualified legal professional (e.g., Fellow of ILEX or equivalent).
- Extensive experience in contract law, procurement, and dispute resolution.
- Proficient in using IT tools for legal work.
- Capable of delivering effective training and presentations.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to write clear reports and training materials.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines.
Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of contract and procurement law, EU law, and local government governance.
- Familiarity with project management and Council services.
- Experience in local government commercial contracts is essential.
Work Conditions:
- Must be able to travel across the Borough as needed.
